We need each other! God built us to be in relationship with one another. But what happens when we struggle to find friends? Or when our children find the wrong friends? Or when we haven’t found community as a family?
How do we move forward in hope?
During the first five years of our marriage, we moved three times. Every time I found my community, we moved. It made me sad on numerous occasions! But God showed me during this period that I could make new friends, and my prayers about friendship made a difference.
I prayed to find the “right” people. God your word says as iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. Send me friends who can sharpen me! Give me divine appointments. Please give me the strength and courage to step out and be a friend first.

Prayer for True Friendship: 5 Examples
#1 Prayer for Our Children to Be Loving Friends:
Scripture: Do to others as you would like them to do to you. Luke 6:31 NLT
Pray: Dear God, we thank you for your kindness toward us. We love because you first loved us. May we share this same love with everyone we encounter. Give our children hearts of compassion. Help them to see situations from every perspective and to treat others like they would want to be treated. Give them a friendly and kind spirit. May they welcome friends with a smile. Amen.
#2 Prayer for Our Children to be Filled With Compassion:
Scripture: This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:12-13
Pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love. How great is your love toward us! This year help my child to love you with all his (her) heart and then to love his (her) friends in the same way you love us. May they act with kindness and care for the hearts of their friends. Fill our children with your joy and may their joy be contagious to their friends! Amen.
#3 Prayer for Wise Friendships:
Scripture: Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. Proverbs 13:30
Pray: God, thank you that you made us to be in relationship with each other. What a gift a sweet friendship is to our souls. Lord, help our children be wise when choosing friends. Give them discernment to find true friends, ones that sharpen their spirits. God in all their interactions, give them the ability to say no when necessary and the bravery to stand up for what is right. Amen.
#4 Prayer for True Friendship:
Scripture: There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24
Pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for your friendship. The Bible says I am a friend of God, oh how wonderful is that! This year Lord, help my children to find true friends. Reliable friends who will treat them like family. Also, help my children to be true friends who love and respect their peers. May they be there for their friends in times of need.
#5 Prayer for the Ability to Accept Correction:
Scripture: Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life. Proverbs 19:20
Pray: God, you are alpha and omega, the beginning and the end! Your ways are higher than ours, and we are grateful for your Heavenly wisdom! Lord, this year help my children to accept instruction and give them the desire to learn from the wise. May they seek wisdom from others and discern what advice from friends they should listen to and follow.
These 5 prayers will get you started. If you are concerned about finding more friends or finding the right friends make it a matter of prayer. God is faithful and He will bring the right people into your life. Be open to His leading.
